Back at my second home

Yep. As of many hours ago, I am finally back at my dorm room. Should be interesting to see how things go this semester, but really I can't wait for it to be over even though it's just started. I have my eyes set straight on graduation. I can't afford to stumble or gently caress up, literally. This is my last semester here regardless of if I graduate or not.

Tomorrow starts the first day of classes. No looking back.

Been a while...

About 24 weeks according to the front page. Eh, hasn't really been too much going on, really.

Next sunday, I return to school for my final semester. Psyched, yet at the same time not really looking forward to it too much. I really want to graduate and be done with school, but at the same time, I like being home and not really having to worry about too much except finding a job (and hopefully just keeping the job after I get one). Hoping to find some way of making some money when I get back to school at least.

Another reason I'm not looking forward to going back is dealing with the 4th dimension. When I took on the role of president at this club, everything was great. The members were motivated to act, we had fun, and did stuff.

Now, the members hardly want to do crap. I mention things we should do and they're like "Yes, we should do that", and then nothing happens. Our membership continues to raise for a week or so with our promotional table, then immediately drops off back to known friends. It feels like I'd have to literally whip them to get them to do anything..It doesn't help that we usually get 2 or 3 people, including myself, coming in for the movie night every week. And it doesn't makes sense, because we have at least over 70 people on the mailing list that still attend the damn school.

Dunno..Just feel like dropping myself as president. They need to elect a new one anyway after this semester so it doesn't really matter much to me. Plus, it would give me more free time and I wouldn't have to keep missing House.

Lets see...what else..Got Guitar Hero 3 for Wii. Plenty of fun but hard mode kicks my ass because I can figure out the finger placement for the 5th fret. Need to get back into playing pokemon so I can build up my levels more. Everyone else seems to be surpassing me apparently. Monster Hunter and City of Heroes/Villains have been sapping up most of my attention though (which also created a giant backlog of manga that I need to read).

Guess that's it..Been thinking about what I want to do after school, but I guess I'll go with what I can. Relationship wise...Heh. Guess I'll figure something out. Only I can do something to change my situation, so I just gotta go out and do it.

Something feels...Off.

I've been getting this strange feeling lately that something doesn't quite feel...right.

I haven't a single clue what it is or where this feeling is coming from, but it's starting to get to me. I don't know if it has anything to do with the winding down from Otakon over the last week, but things just really feel...different.

If I had to place it somewhere, I can only assume it's just the "downs" from all of the built up excitement over Otakon. At least I hope that's it.

Anyway, the planning stages for next year's costume has already begun. Crystal and I have been planning cosplay from Gurren Lagann. Tentatively, I decided on Time-Skip Rossiu. That was before I saw episode 18, though. Now...not so much. Instead, I think I might try for Viral or Time-Skip Simon. Both of which will be requiring a lot more working out than I did for Mori. In fact, By this time next year, I want to ensure that I actually have some Abs to be proud of, damnit!

In other news, finally saw the Transformers movie today. I gotta say I was almost, but not quite undisappointed. It wasn't a bad movie. Just wasn't a good Transformers movie. Way too much focus on the Humans and not the giant robots beating the shit out of each other. Oh well, here's hoping they'll do better on the sequel.

While I was off in Transformers, my mom, my sister, and my niece were in the Bratz movie. Goes without saying that my mom came out of that movie absolutely loathing it. My niece loved it, of course. Then again, she buys into those retarded toys as well, so I'm not too surprised.

Ah well. All that's left is to start getting ready for school. Starts back up on the 26th.

Overall, decent experience. Line handling for autograph sessions were essentially a clusterfuck of "who can race to the front of the line spot first?", which then involved standing in long periods of time within 3 inches of unshowered, sweat covered people. If it wasn't for me carrying around a small bottle of cologne as an emergency, things would have been unbearable.

I love this feeling...The excitement and anticipation of an anime convention. My jacket is being worked on by one of my step-aunts, and I recently ordered a tie (that wasn't an ouran tie. The one mentioned before I canceled the order) that could be made into a matching tie once I get a hold of the ribbon from Velg. On top of that, I picked up a Honey doll seeing as the person in our group who was going to be Honey changed their mind and is now going for Renge. Still going to be figuring out how to set it up to have it sit on my shoulder without damaging the jacket.

I still have more preparations to do. Need to make sure I have some comfortable dress shoes. I'm sure I have some in the closet somewhere, and I need to get my hair cut and straightened.

I've also managed to lose a few pounds. Nothing drastic, but just a lot of working out with the help of Pump It Up and some controlled eating habits have helped. Now, just need to take care of the abs and arms and I should be set, but not sure how much I can work on within 3 weeks.

Well, by some kind of strange fortune, my school sent me a refund check for $100. I don't know why, considering how tight fisted the school can be for anything good, but I had no plans on looking this gift horse in the mouth.

The money was rather promptly spent in a period of two days: Wednesday and 10 minutes ago.

On Wednesday, I went out an retrieved everything necessary to build the jacket for the costume: Fabric, buttons, thread and a pattern. I also couldn't resist picking up Resident Evil 4 for the Wii since it came out at a pleasantly discounted price this week. I'm half regretting it and half not. The regret is because that was potential spending money for perhaps a movie or something. The...non-regret is just from how much this game kicks so much ass. Seems a bit more difficult than I last remember when playing it on the gamecube, but still just as awesome.

As for today's purchase, I realized i completely forgot to retrieve materials for the tie, and seeing as I didn't want to overburden whoever would be sewing this (since I don't know how to sew and I don't want to learn using those damn overpriced costume materials), I ordered a tie online, making sure to purchase the most closely matching tie that could be found.

Just hoping it'll be done before Otakon. Only 3 weeks away at this point.

Dying for some work here

Week 5 into the summer vacation and still no work. It's pissing me off that this stupid agency can't find me a job. I'm even more at a lost that none of my applications to other places seem to be getting anywhere. Of everywhere I've applied so far, I've had no callbacks.It's gotten me concerned that those internships I've done in the government have made me mostly unhireable with my lack of experience in retail and public work. So while it paid, well I was given no guarantee of being able to return and little experience for actual work among people.

And as much as I love the idea of sitting at home and doing nothing but playing video games all day, all play and no work makes Damien go..something something...

Another weekend passes and things go by slowly. I'm still "out of work" in that I'm annoyingly waiting for the temp company to finally contact me. I was told once more to give them a call Monday to see if they have anything for me. I'm making this the last Monday I wait though, as I can't just sit around by my cell phone waiting for any kind of call. I've picked up a few applications to a few businesses at Arundel Mills and and will be doing some other applying as part of a Plan B.

The rest of my time has been spent with City of Villains, because what else am I gonna do? I've been trying to get out and exercise a bit as well so I can be in some kind of non round-ish shape, but the motivation to actually do it just comes and goes as it pleases. If I can get my sleep schedule perfected, I'd probably be able to get everything settled exercise wise.

My playing in CoV though has not been without its rewards.

I've managed to obtain the rarest "Wings" piece available in the game: Tech Wings.

So far, pretty effin' awesome. In the "Black Market", they go for at least 12 mill, so if it wasn't for the Super Group another villain of mine belonged to combined with being able to sell a very rare costume recipe for big bucks, I'd probably been impossible for my character to get that.

So awesome

Ah well. Gonna try and go out for a run before it gets too hot then shower up and maybe find something to do.

As of today, I'm officially a summer hire for a Temp staffing agency, making in the area between 12 and 15 bucks an hour. Pretty much, they'll find work for me where necessary and I"ll get paid based on my work at that place every week or for however long they need me to work there, then I move on to the next job.

Hells yeah!

Everything went pretty smoothly. I met my supervisor at the agency, watched the "Employee training video" and took a small computer skill test for Excel, Word and just Typing skill. At most, it took maybe 30 minutes.

They said they'd get back to me soon when they find something for me. If nothing comes up, then I contact them on Monday, but so far everything seems like it'll be loads better than the bureaucratic bull of government work.

I'm hoping to start work soon and here I am messing up my sleep schedule. Ah well. I hope to work on that during this week at least.

Speaking of work, I finished updating my Resume. No longer looks like a 15 year old crapped it out on Notepad. Just in time too, since my Aunt referred me to this place she works at that's hiring and they pay pretty damn good for someone with my writing skills. Should be good money for Otakon if I'm hired. Worse comes to worse, I've got some emergency cash sitting around just in case.

Still little costume preparation unfortunately. Got the patch, still need to get the tie, and the blazer hasn't been made yet. Got at least a month though so hopefully there's time.

Been getting into City of Heroes again now that I have a little bit more available time. The papers aren't coming in as much as they were, and I only have one final for the end of the semester so things are calming down. I finally reached friggin level 50 after 1 year and 3 months of play, so I finally have access to the two Epic superpower sets: The Peacebringer and the Warshade. Can't wait to try them out. Though I'm also getting drawn more towards City of Villains as well to start getting my other characters up.

Preparations need to be made for Otakon. Our hotel came under new ownership, and thankfully the reservation is still in place. Tomorrow, I need to see if we can get a bigger room so we're not suck with 1 bed. All that's left is to make sure I have money for the convention, which is practically ensured thanks to a summer internship I got into again, and the costume. I'll be playing Mori from Ouran High School Host Club, and that sort of cosplay is fairly simple. All you need is dress pants, a dress shirt, the tie and the emblem. The only thing that needs to be made is the blazer, which is simple enough. Just need to wait for Velg to pick out the color so we'll all be synchronized.

And speaking of Otakon, friggin' Steven Blum is going to be there. I need to bring something I can have him autograph.

Today, Pokemon finally hit stores, and damn Nintendo for releasing it on a Sunday. Busses don't run on Sunday! A few of us are stuck here on campus trying to find people with cars who are willing to take us up to the mall, but so far no luck. Ah well. I guess I could wait one day.

For the first time ever, I think I may be sick of winter break.

I've given up on winter break job hunting and have focused on applying for summer jobs instead. Usual government work that I've been doing the past few summers. I've been bored to tears sitting here doing nothing. Well, not exactly nothing. Been doing some jogging and working out at least as much as I could, but I'm kinda getting bored with video games seeing as there's just nothing else to do.

I really do want school to start again so I can hang out with my friends, or at least have more to do than just sit around. Reading through the Dark Elf Trilogy has helped a little but as time drags on, I just can't find the motivation to do anything right now. It's a struggle to find something to keep myself occupied so I don't end up a lazy mess.

Hell..Just kinda half-assing this post as I speak. Ugh. I need interaction with people. I need something different, damnit. I'd kill to be able to hang out with someone right now.

So another year comes to an end. Not looking forward to it really because from the looks of things, I still need an additional year for school, making it a total of 6 years spent in friggin' college. Lesson learned far too late: Never go right into college. Take care of your junk in community college first. Maybe I could just take care of my major related stuff first at Frostburg and finish out everything else at PGCC with a job on the side.

There are a few things I look forward to. The approach of summer and Otakon of course which seems to be coming earlier and earlier every year. New opportunities for happiness abound as well.

Anyway, this can't be a post about the new year without the typical resolutions. Perhaps this time I'll actually hold myself to all of them.

1. Concentrate harder on school to get a higher GPA than just average. Technically this past semester I would have reached a 3 if it wasn't for the one class that I got a CS in (Continued study for those who haven't had the pleasure). All because the teacher wouldn't accept my writing style.

2. Fix my sleep schedule all year round. It's fun to stay up late at college, but it wreaks hell on me when it comes to classes. I probably would have done better than C in one of my classes if I didn't have a bunch of sleep related absences ^_^;

3. Cut down on gaming related spending. I might reduce my spending to the 5 to 15 bucks for Virtual Console games on my Wii once the selection becomes bigger. It'd be a lot cheaper in the long run while waiting for major releases. Better scenario would be to just stop buying altogether unless I find a job during school. Either way, I need to keep my spending towards food and other essentials.

4. Perversions and the ending of them. Should be no surprise to people that I have a bit of a dirty mind at times which I make sure to keep restrained at least. It's to be expected. I'm a young male exposed to the world of sex so it's only natural that my thoughts often be drawn in that direction, but I'm starting to realize it that if I'm not having it, there is no point in thinking about it. In other words, I think I'm starting to get bored with thinking about it and the collection I have, though I guess 4 movies isn't really much of a collection though.

5. Further build my confidence. Much to my annoyance, I still find I lack confidence in a few things. It wasn't easy getting to a point where I could forget about what people would think about me (To an extent. Doesn't mean I go about with absolutely no tact and letting lose about whatever at any time. Just means a person's opinions about me don't carry any weight with me). However, I still lack some confidence in communicating things to people. Running the anime club has certainly been helping, but on the one-to-one level, I hesitate and delay to the point where I just don't get it out at all.

6. Finish my gaming backlog. Keeping in line with not buying any new games, I seriously need to finish the games I currently have. I have a crap ton of PS2, Gamecube and DS games I have yet to reach the end in, let alone finish off entirely. Thankfully there's only one game coming out next year that I'm so far looking forward to, so I'm not concerned at the moment with buying anything more.

7. Learn to sew and cook. The latter is obvious, but I want to learn to sew so I can worry about making my own costumes and not have to rely on family for such work.

8. Read more. It's probably sad that, as an English major, I don't feel compelled to read more. Literature classes tend to scare you off of reading pretty easily seeing as you're not reading for enjoyment but because you want to pass a course. I recently got pulled into The Dark Elf Trilogy and I'm gonna start hunting down other books like Snow Crash and others I've heard to be interesting.

That list will probably change as the year moves on, but that's what I got so far. Less than two hours remaining for us East Coasters.

Looking forward by looking back

Finals are finally done, so all that's left is to wait for my ride to take me home tomorrow. Looking forward to the break. With Night At the Museum coming out in a few days and Eragon coming out tomorrow, it's gonna be a good break for movies and hanging out with some friends.

As I look back at the things posted in this journal this year (what few things there were >.>), I realize how stupid I tend to get when I let emotions get past logical reasoning. Thinking about enlisting? The hell was I thinking? Ah well. It's been an interesting year to say the least.

Frostcon (our club's small, one day anime convention) was somewhat successful like always and we gotta thank Synch-Point/Brocolli Co.'s support for that like they do every year. Those guys are cool when it comes to supporting clubs. Even let us borrow a screener's Dvd for Di Gi Charat for free.

Few of my friends up here are graduating this semester and next semester, so things are gonna start getting sucky up here. If I wasn't already so far in my classes here, I'd think of transfering to a school closer to home to finish out my credits.

I still need a car, and my mom says she's not helping me find one until Spring Break and has the money I saved up towards one set in a CoD account. In the mean time, I need to rely on borrowing the parents' cars, which isn't too bad really since they both have some nice cars. Though I prefer my dad's PT Cruser thanks to its size.

I should get back to packing up.Though I'm probably gonna leave the Wii unpacked. Which reminds me, I still need to do my Twilight Princess review.

Short version: It's beautifully f***ing awesome.

Long version: It's an amazing game. Long too. I spent a good 50+ hours on it total just short of doing everything in the game (ended with two whole heart pieces to find and a lot of poes to go after and while I could have easily gotten the heart pieces, the poes are a pain in the ass to find). Despite the length, nothing felt tedious or made me feel like I was wasting my time. I was completely engrossed. Playing as Wolf Link was awesome too, especially when it came to lunging at enemies and biting the shit out of their neck.

That's all I'll say for now without going into too much detail. Next up will be Trauma Center: Second Opinion

I almost threw up at the presentation this morning. I was contacted late in the afternoon by the group "leader" for the presentation for Copywriting class. Considering the scope of the project, this could have been completed much earlier in the week. But nope, I was given the information I needed to complete my portion of the project and had a nice and tiny deadline to get it to her for printing.

Didn't help matters much that I'd planned on conducting the alumn interview that day as well, but because of this, I was unable to do it and had to schedule a new interview with someone else through the teacher for today and then write that up as a paper. To top it off nicely, I still have my exam in a few hours.

So yeah...all of that in one neat ball and the stress I feel trying to speak in front of judges rather than other students smacked me pretty hard in the stomach and I had to excuse myself from the presentation. If it wasn't for my exam at 11, I'd take a nice long nap before the interview..

Ah well. Only good thing is that my next exam isn't until Thursday...

Group projects are born in the 9th layer of hell

The concept of group projects in college must be born of Satan himself.

In this class "Copywriting for Electronic Media", which is pretty much learning how to write for radio and television formats, our final is a group project. In groups of four, we have to come up with a our own fake company and make a small advertising campgaign for the University consisting of summery portfolio of our organization, two radio spots, two Tv spots and a visual display for the Tv spots. As part of this, we also have to dress professionally, which is kinda retarded because I don't expect to keep an iron and fancy clothes about just for one friggin class. That's not the problem though.

The problem is that I've not heard a single thing from the other members of my group. They're not responding to my emails and I'm about to try calling next, but at the moment, I have no idea how far along the project is seeing as they won't tell me if they've been meeting and where and our presentation is Monday morning at 8. The project has enough hold on my grade that failure gives me a D in the class.

There's that to stress over and I still need to conduct the interview for my Journalism class. Gotta get that worked out and emailed in so I can do revisions and send the finalized version in as well. This is really pissing me off. Got two finals to worry about two, one of them that comes directly after the presentation on Monday.

Damn I'll be glad when this is over..
